Figuring Out The Codes

Posted in FMS Project at 4:15 pm by Admin

2 meetings were done last week. The first was a progress meeting and many issues were brought up to the table especially the drawings, it should be resolved soon. The second was an operation meeting and brainstorming session on how to design and customize the codes which will be used for Building Operation Management module. Business process flow were also being discussed and the more discussion made, the more things need to be explored.

Furthermore, the client asked SIMEK team to do some research on Uniformat to see if we could adapt the coding for operation standard purposes. More information about that here:

I did a few googling regarding Facilities Management. Listed here are the few interesting things I have found:

Definition of Facilities Management- A brief explanation and list down of what Facilities Management is all about.

APPA- The Association of Higher Education Facilities Officers

Going back to the project under progress, I found out that University of Sydney is also using ARCHIBUS/FM using Web Central engine. So, we are digging out how they are doing in order to model their implementation success. You can have a look on how they have utilized ARCHIBUS/FM and Web Central by visiting their Facilities Management Office Website.

In addition to that, one of the tools used for Project Management is always Microsoft Project. However, the software has its own price tag which is quite hefty for some people. A free tool I’ve found which is free of charge is GANTTPROJECT. I haven’t used the tool yet but I’ll find time to explore the tool later.

I’m also testing and developing a tool I have found provided free using Fantastico on my current webhosting. The software is a web-based program called dotProject.net. I’m still learning and configuring out how to use this Project Management tool for the team to utilize it. I hope it could help to speed up our implementation process. You can check it out and have a look at it here SIMEK FMS Team Management. The username and password for you to use is guest.

We recently finished presenting and discussed about on how Building Operation Management module is going to be included in the Facility Management System. We will setup a site office very soon to accomodate our workload and to shorten our travelling time and expenses.
