The last scheduled meeting had been postponed because of the year-end holiday season and stuff related to end of the year. We however kept on moving on with our daily activities.
Part of my duty in SIMEK Malaysia is to plan, support & develop business activities for the company. So having some marketing and product development experience from my previous job enables me to figure out something which could add up some value for the existing product that we currently have in Facility Management Solutions.
So hereby, I would like to proudly introduce to you:
The most distinctive benefit of this product for the end user is mobility and automated process. This could ease up your facility management process especially in the Inventory and asset tracking for your facilities.
For more information. You can download this FREE brochure that we’ve develop.
P/S: The file is 948kb so I would recommend you right click and download the file instead of clicking on it directly (This is especially if you are using a low bandwitdh or a slow PC).

Our team last week held 2 meetings at our client site. Since the implementation package includes Building Operation Management modules, we had to sit down and layout what the client have, to assess what kind of data that is available or not available yet. So we met each person that were in charge of different areas which was:
1. Civil
2. Mechanical
3. Landscape
4. Electrical
5. Telecommunication
We dug out quite a lot of interesting information from each department. It kind of look like an interview but it was fun. Still, getting back to business the client had numerous outsourced services and they are having a difficult time to track some of them. Some of department is also responsible for areas which was outside their territory.
I’ll give you a scenario here, the mechanical department is in charge over a lot of areas. One of them is the water supply. The supply from the water reservoir to all the building in the campus is not billed individually, therefore the client had to pay for all the usage from all the buildings for the entire site. They cannot track which building/department who has the most water usage. The same goes for electricity. Quite a lot of things to improve.
We will have the next Facility Management System meeting this Wednesday. I’ll update on that soon.

Dealing with big organization requires a lot of meetings and also many people. So far, 2 meetings were held which I have attended. Recently the company just appointed a senior project manager, so my job is to assist him in dealing with all the paperwork beside concurrently communicating with the technical part. During the last project meeting with all of project teams, it is clearly noted that Facilities Management System would be a huge part for the entire system. Before this, it has never been thought of that way. So it proved that Facility Management has a very valuable perspective in an organization.
We are in the early stages to rectify Space Management and the codes that are going to be used. The missing part would just be standard coding that other ‘FM’ers are using. Still, we need to comply with what the end user has came out before. The end user was practically waiting for the system to be implemented. Higher management kept on holding them back. They got tired of waiting so they went on their own. They’ve develop quite a number of systems to assist their daily routine. Hopefully, with the implementation that is going to be done, it would compliment the existing system and help for future expansion.
In another seperate occasion, one of our client, a very well known corporation has recently called us up for some technical support. Eventhough we have a shortage of personnel, we sent one of our technical guy to see what is wrong with their system. Apparently, ARCHIBUS/FM Facil-o-tor 300 that they were using wasn’t configured correctly. The IT department had tried numerous attempt to connect the license file by scripting. The manual has stated of just copying the license file into the specific folder so it never should have been that way. However, if things go wrong, there are millions of ways it could go wrong. The problem still continues, does anyone know how to solve this problem?
I’ve moved the part where the screenshot displayed here. The screenshot can be viewed at this link. www.simek.com.my/archibus_troubleshoot.htm
I’ve also completed the 2nd part for Space Standards: Some Recent Lessons on the company’s website. I hope that it should be helpful and informative to anyone who is interested in Facility Management field.

During the past 8 weeks I haven’t blogged, there were 6 meetings that were held. 2 of them were between the vendors, and 4 meetings with the end user. Supposedly, there were more meetings but the holiday intervened it. Since the end user is a big public organization, the end user themselves are pushing so that the money that they are going to spend it worth their effort and investment. So far, the project is still under progress and haven’t even touch the implementation plan yet. This is because of the higher management is delaying on a few more issues. This is considered normal in a big organization such as the end-user. However, they want to change the current situation so that effective decision making could take place for better efficiency in the future.
The end-user at the current phase of implementation would only take 3 modules that ARCHIBUS/FM software has to offer. The 3 modules are:
1. Building and Operation Management
2. Space Management
3. Overlay for AutoCAD with Design Management
There are still 9 more modules that is not included yet. The end user want it all but it doesn’t seem like a rational thing to implement a full blown system as budget constraint is an issue here.
Despite of having huge workload at the moment, I also managed to redesign and uploaded a few articles at SIMEK Official website. The article that I’ve selected is very informative, I’ll list down the title for you:
I’ll be updating this blog again from time to time. Happy working!
