Yesterday, our bi-monthly meeting with the project manager leader is held. This time, my portion of the job is too little to create some kind of Gantt Chart for the entire duration of the project. I’ve never made one before so I have to learn to create it. It’s not that difficult with todays advanced software and technology. If you know how to use any Microsoft Software, then you only need to learn how to manouvre through Microsoft Project.
Enough on promoting Microsoft, so what I need to do now is to prepare the Gantt Chart and then finish off the questionaire for my end user. Simple it may sound, but a lot of vigorous reading and understanding is required as I don’t have the in depth comprehension of a professor. The thing here is called, “Needs Analysis & Planning”. It is the foundation of the project before actually implementing it and also just to give you a few perspectives as a start.
A quick search on Google results on millions of pages with ‘Needs Analysis’ keywords. A nice page to do a review of the topic is http://www.nwlink.com/~donclark/hrd/needsalt.html. It’s a good resource when you don’t have anything on your mind yet. I’ll write more on this once I’ve digest all the information.
Be sure to stick around on my next FM information venture.

On the 1st August 2005, the second meeting were held at the master contracter’s office in Kelana Jaya. This was my first time attending this meeting. The meeting is a scheduled meeting to discuss on the progress of each part of the project aspects. Our part is not as tedious as the others as we no need to do any development, so that made the job a bit easier.
Why do I say we don’t need any development? It’s because our application, ARCHIBUS/FM has a ready made template so the only thing we are going to focused on is the implementation activity and also the support in case something happen in the future. We could also customized the application accordingly but that wouldn’t be necessary right now.
The Needs Analysis is going to be done once the end-user is prepared, we will begin with a set of questionaire to be asked to the end user and later on determine what needs to be done.

Welcome to SIMEK Facilities Management (FM) Project Blog. My name is Syed M. Ashraf Syed Azizan and I am the webmaster, content editor, blog author for www.simek.com.my and the Assistant Manager for SIMEK (M) Sdn Bhd.
A quick introduction about myself, I am 24 years old and live in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. I joined SIMEK on December 2004 permanently. Since the company is having a corporate reshuffle, I was assigned as the overall operation management of the company. Over the short period of my employment, I’ve organized ARCHIBUS/FM training for 2 of our clients, running the back-end office management, created www.simek.com.my corporate website and the latest, assigned as a Coordinator for the Facilities Management System (FMS) for a very well known local public university in Malaysia.
The purpose of this blog is to note down key agenda and personal thoughts over the current FMS project besides anything which is related to Total Infrastructure and Facilities Management mainly focused in Malaysia. I am not an expert in this field, there are many more people who are qualified to speak about FM, however as a newbie in this field, I want to constantly build my knowledge in this very interesting field.
Future plans would be doing an e-business as part of expanding my entrepreneurial skills besides doing planning an infoproduct development for future references and producing some revenue.
